The real world has been taking up a lot of our time recently! But we're determined to finish this tale. Some tales of our time along the Carretera Austral can be read in a new diary entry and don't forget to take a look at some of our new photos too.
Fundraising news
We have so far raised £8609 for our two charities, MSF and The Psychiatry Research Trust. Thank you very much everyone who has contributed to this total!
A cycling expedition
We are a couple from London who are taking a year out, from 1st March 2006 to complete our adventure of a lifetime. We plan to cycle from Cancun in Mexico through Central America, then from Equador to Patagonia at the tip of South America.
In doing this, we are hoping to raise money for our two favourite charities;
Medecins Sans Frontieres is an humanitarian medical agency providing medical aid
wherever needed. The Psychiatry Research Trust raises funds for research into mental
illness and brain disease.
This website will chart our progress in words and pictures.
Who are we?
Tom: I'm from London, although I spent eight years in Manchester for
my medical training. Since then I've been completing my psychiatric training in South
London. I'm a keen cyclist, although I normally talk about it more than I ride!
I also love travel, but combining them is a first for me.
Eleanor: Before we had the idea for this trip, I hadn't ridden a bike since I was about 9, but I have been practising, and I love the freedom my bicycle gives me. I'm hoping that being on bikes will mean that we can experience the countries we ride through in a very immediate way. I'm looking forward to stepping out from behind my desk (I work as a designer/programmer for an interactive media company) and into a very different world of adventure!
